We believe in a future where robots are standard tools critical for constructing buildings efficiently. In this future, robots leverage CAD design models to make the workforce more productive and eliminate errors that create waste and rebuilding of work that has already been completed. In a Dusty-powered future, space becomes more affordable and requires fewer resources to produce.

We bridge the gap between the digital world of building design with the skilled labor operating in the field, accelerating the digital transformation of the construction industry. The centerpiece of our strategy is the FieldPrinter: a mobile printer-on-wheels that prints building floorplans (in CAD format) full-size on the concrete floor of a construction site. Our robot prints lines, text, and points with 1 mm accuracy, enabling builders to construct walls and fixtures on top of our layout with zero mistakes:

The position

We are looking for a Senior Robotics Engineer to help us design and build software systems of our robot’s operation. Think of this role as a “feature lead”: you’ll take ownership of specific functions, such as navigation or printing or obstacle avoidance, and work with the engineering team to design and build reliable and complete implementations in software. You’ll have a major role in shaping a product with strong customer demand!

As a robotics feature lead, you’re:
Researching new algorithms and techniques in the robotics literature
Writing and presenting proposals for complete feature designs from firmware to user interface
Working through feasibility and edge cases with the hardware and software teams
Writing software as an individual contributor
Providing direction to QA engineers and running engineering tests in the field at construction sites

Who you are

5+ years experience developing software for mobile robots in production
Experience leading the design and implementation of whole features or functions of a robot
Experience working with state estimation, sensor fusion, navigation, path planning and obstacle avoidance
Experience writing software interfaces to a variety of sensors and actuators
Experience with ROS or equivalent middleware
Fluent in modern C/C++ and Python
MS degree or equivalent experience in robotics
