What You’ll Do
We are looking for a Robotics Software Engineer, Manipulation to build the foundation of our manipulation framework enabling new ways EVE can safely interact with the world, complete with tools and interfaces that will be used by our applications engineers to prototype manipulation solutions in the field. You will be responsible for owning the development, testing, and maintenance of our manipulation stack, with features defined through your interactions with our project leads and other controls engineers.
You will work cross-functionally with a range of other specialists in perception, localization, and controls in order to develop a solution that uses the full potential of EVEs’ actuation and internal/external sensing capabilities. An ideal candidate is someone who has experience with floating base machines that make contact with the world using up-to-date modern methods in manipulation. Who is comfortable going down both model and learning-based routes.
Work with project directors to define new product features requiring autonomous manipulation
Project scoping and prototyping with other engineers on the controls and perception team
Partner with other engineers to iterate through potential solutions, relying heavily on both simulation and hardware tests for quick feedback
Contribute production-grade software to in-house tools and libraries that extend the ability of our robots to interact with the world and increase the efficiency of application engineers in the field
Deploy well tested, documented, and safe new features to our robots in the real world
Masters or PhD. in Computer Science, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or proof of exceptional skills in related fields with practical engineering experience
3-5 years industry experience writing software deployed to real robots
Experience incorporating modern research in closed-loop control of robot manipulation
Strong skills in C++ and Python, with comfort operating on a Linux system
A well-rounded familiarity with the classic autonomy architecture: perception, controls/planning, actuation
Ability to investigate manipulation solutions from both classical and learning-based domains
Experience with any of the following:
ROS, ROS2, DDS, or other middleware
Vision in the loop manipulation
Motion planning of mobile manipulators
Simulation environments for robots
Real-time software for mobile robots
