Inventing a better future together

SRI International’s Advanced Technology and Systems Division (ATSD) performs research across a wide range of disciplines. SRI specializes in transitioning technology from basic R&D to fieldable prototypes for both US government and commercial customers.

ATSD has an opening for a Research Engineer in the Robotics Laboratory. The Robotics Lab has a long history of inventing and developing pioneering robotic platforms in a range of fields including robotic surgery (Intuitive Surgical), human power augmentation (Seismic Exosuits), and novel drivetrains (Abacus Drive and Inception Drive). We are seeking a mechanical engineer that can make significant contributions to these areas and more. An ideal candidate will be comfortable with designing in the earliest stages of novel mechanisms, but also brings knowledge and appreciation of how to design for long lifetime and eventual manufacturing. This job offers a unique opportunity to contribute to new and impactful technologies.

This position will be working in a team environment and managing multiple priorities including current project work, proposals and business development, and internal research and development. You will review the technical work of others and provide actionable feedback, as well as participate in customer briefings and presentations.

Qualifications:
•BS in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline. MS or PhD preferred.
•Experience designing drivetrains for robotics or mobility platforms
•Materials and lubrication selection for long lifetime
•Experience with continuously variable transmissions is desirable
•Experience with designing human power augmentation systems such as exoskeletons is desirable
•Experience designing for manufacturing is desirable

At SRI, we prioritize the health and well-being of our employees, families, and friends above all else. In response to the increased transmissibility with recent variants, all SRI Employees must be fully vaccinated and provide proof thereof as a condition of continued or future employment with SRI.
