As the Localization & Mapping Architect, you’ll research, prototype, and bring to production algorithms that enable autonomous & semiautonomous systems to estimate their position and attitude absolutely but also relatively to terrain features, static or mobile equipment. That includes building suitable environment representation for dynamic environments in a distributed manner, implementing filters using perception-based, inertial, and GNSS inputs. We’re looking for a primarily hands-on engineer, who’s capable of taking real-world problems, turning them into well-defined projects, surveying and selecting the right approach, developing quick prototypes & bringing them to production. The Architect will work with senior level technology strategists, mentor junior engineers and have design input to current and future technologies and strategies. You will also have input on how to build the team and help lead them as the technology evolves over time.
Take responsibility for the overall planning, execution, and success of complex technical projects to deliver on localization and mapping routines to achieve autonomy objectives.
Define and manage system requirements, interfaces, and high-level architecture decisions and tradeoffs for the localization architecture.
Work with functional safety team to manage safety case development and validation process
Provide the team with technical leadership and contribute technically to projects
Collaborate with product team, other engineering leaders, and key stakeholders to lead the team to execute on goals
Use your experience to advise and improve on development process and practices
Master’s degree or PhD in an accredited Robotics, Electrical or Computer engineering or Computer Science degree
10+ years of experience in Industrial Machine advanced technology development illustrating deep technical domain expertise
5+ years of Robotics/Autonomous solution experience with hands-on technical leadership
Top Candidates will also have
Strong understanding of software engineering principles and processes along with the ability to apply this knowledge to execute projects and optimize development strategies, including experience with SLAM type approaches, map creation and map management as applied to localization applications, and utilization of graph optimization libraries and spatial data structures
Knowledge of robotics and frameworks such as ROS
Fluency in Python, excellency in C++, strong engineering practices, debugging/profiling skills.
Ability to survey literature for ideas and convert research papers into production implementation.
Strong foundation in mathematics and fundamentals (3D geometry, linear algebra, Kalman/particle filters)
Proven track record of leading and delivering complex technical projects with multi-disciplinary teams
The location for this position is Pittsburgh PA, Mossville IL, or San Francisco CA
