Optimus Ride is at a pivotal point in its evolution as we drive the creation of self-driving technologies. We are seeking an entrepreneurial Senior Commercial Counsel with a proven track record of successfully supporting complex technology transactions and a wide array of commercial contracts. Such work is crucial to ensuring the strategic objectives of Optimus Ride’s mission are fulfilled. This role will have a significant impact on our business and give you the opportunity to create and bring to life the future of mobility. This is the first commercial counsel role in the legal department.
Draft and negotiate a wide variety of commercial arrangements to help the business scale and grow, including contracts with customers, vendors, and strategic business partners.
Become an internal thought leader and counsel stakeholders on issues related to commercial transactions
Work closely with and support cross-functional stakeholders including the Business Development team
Develop, implement and continually improve contract processes and procedures to drive deal efficiency
Create and update our form legal agreements
Craft pragmatic solutions to legal issues and provide succinct and actionable legal advice that allows stakeholders to make sound business decisions in view of relevant legal requirements and risks
Effectively manage outside counsel and potentially other in-house counsel
Participate and lead various aspects of the company’s compliance efforts, including policy and training documents
Report to the General Counsel
JD degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in at least one US state
Expertise in commercial contracts and complex technology transactions with a minimum of 6+ years experience. This should include experience at a major law firm, with some in-house experience strongly preferred.
A successful track record of managing complex negotiations and contract drafting from start to finish
Strong negotiation presence and the ability to lead teams working towards a goal
Solid understanding of legal issues involved in various types of commercial transactions, including complex technology transactions, strategic business partnerships, vendor supply deals, and service agreements
The ability to provide clear, concise legal advice, and to work effectively cross-functionally to drive to results
Impeccable written and oral communication skills
Sound and practical business judgment with a proven ability to balance legal risk with business priorities and realities
Ability to manage multiple, high priority, competing priorities
Advanced analytical ability, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Willing to learn new areas of law and assist with a variety of issues as they arise in a fast-moving startup environment
Willing to roll up sleeves (no job too big, no job too small) and collaborate cross functionally
Eager to learn the autonomous vehicle industry and the company’s business
Ability to travel as needed
Role location may be remote within the United States
Prior work in the autonomous vehicle, automotive, or transportation industry is a plus
Knowledge of other areas of law such as IP or litigation is a plus
Experience negotiating deals with entities that may have an interest in obtaining shuttle services (e.g. city councils, master planned communities, universities, business campuses etc.) is a plus
