Robotics / Senior Electrical Engineer – Hybrid

As a Senior Electrical Systems Engineer at Relay Robotics, you will be working as part of a small team to advance and develop our hardware and firmware for existing and new products.  Your primary responsibilities will be to design new and improved custom PCBAs and associated firmware, and to work with our engineering and operations teams to improve the reliability, safety and performance of our robot systems, as well as helping to resolve and debug problems as they arise.  In this position you will have the opportunity to work on all aspects of electrical design including power electronics, analog and digital circuit design, controls, communications, motors and actuators, firmware, and drivers.  You will also be supporting PCBA and robot manufacturing and testing, including development of test hardware and software.

Responsibilities

    • Design new custom PCBAs and modify existing designs, to advance the capabilities of our robots while improving safety, reliability, serviceability and cost.
    • Oversee PCB manufacturing, design and build of PCBA test equipment and processes
    • Resolve manufacturing issues in collaboration with supply chain personnel and suppliers, including design revisions in response to component shortages.
    • Work with our field support team to troubleshoot electrical and system level robotic issues both in house and at customer locations
    • Develop and execute testing and characterization methods for new components for use in robotic systems.
    • Lead design of PCBA testers and specialized subsystem test apparatus.
    • Conduct failure analysis on electronic components returned from the field and share your findings with all company stakeholders
    • Write instructions for production and field employees for the use, care, and support of hardware and firmware and test equipment
    • (ideally) Lead the process of establishing and certifying CE Mark and ISO 13482 compliance
    • Design for reliability and safety; conduct or lead design safety assessments
    • Write low level drivers to interface with custom boards and other robot hardware

Ideal Qualifications

    • B.S. or M.S. in electrical engineering or computer engineering, or equivalent experience
    • Hands on experience with analog and digital circuit design, layout, manufacturing, and troubleshooting
    • Experience designing PCBA’s in Altium with expertise in design for thermal management, EMC, and mechanical robustness in vibration environments.
    • Experience with analog circuits, processors, motion control systems, serial communication hardware, sensors and system architecture.
    • Skilled in evaluation, testing and characterization of sensors, batteries, motors and motion control systems and other electronic components.
    • System level understanding of complex electro-mechanical systems
    • Experience programming embedded systems in C, C++
    • Communications experience including Modbus, CAN bus, UDP, RS232, RS485, RS422, SPI, I2C, TCP/IP
    • Familiar with technologies including: EEPROMs, barometers, accelerometers, boot loaders, bluetooth, and other wireless radios
    • 5 plus years of experience on shippable products

Nice to Haves

    • Familiarity with industrial safety systems
    • Experience with building automation (e.g. elevator systems, automatic doors, security systems)
    • Experience with robotics, ROS, robotic sensors and mobile robot navigation
    • Working knowledge of Linux, Python, STM32/ARM Cortex, KEIL compiler
